The Toyota Corolla continues to please drivers with its easy driving manners, reliability, and standard features. It's offered as a four-door sedan and as a hatchback, and comes with a choice of engines. The 2022 model carries over without any major changes, so you can still get it with all the features you love. Here's a look at the 2022 Toyota Corolla.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level Corolla L has 15-inch steel wheels, LED daytime running lights, LED headlights, a black mesh grille, and it comes with LED taillights. Stepping up to the LE gets you 16-inch steel wheels and heated side exterior mirrors, while the SE has a sportier look with a rear spoiler and dual exhaust tips. This model also adds integrated turn signals in the side mirrors. Choose the SE Nightshade for black-painted wheels, a black spoiler, and black badging, or the SE Apex for summer tires, 18-inch wheels, and black and bronze exterior trim elements.
Up next in the lineup, the XLE has upgraded LED headlights, a sunroof, and 16-inch wheels, and the XSE adds 18-inch wheels. You can also get the sporty Apex XSE or get the hatchback in the SE or XSE.
Engine (Power)
The base engine for the Corolla is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder gas engine. It puts out 139 horsepower and uses front-wheel drive. The SE and XSE use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 169 horsepower and if you have the SE, it comes with a six-speed manual transmission. The rest of the lineup works with Toyota's CVT.
Performance
The Corolla provides a comfortable and smooth ride. The 1.8-liter has plenty of power for the small car, but the 2.0-liter drives with more enthusiasm. The SE and XSE add to the driving experience with a sport-tuned suspension.
Interior
There's room for five in the Corolla, and it has a trunk with over 13 cubic feet of cargo space. The hatchback has even more cargo space with 17.8 cubic feet behind all the seats. Standard features include a padded center console and a six-way adjustable driver's seat. Moving up through the trims gets you a leather-wrapped steering wheel, premium sport seats in the SE, and faux leather upholstery in the XSE and XLE, which also have heated front seats. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard tech features in the 2022 Corolla along with a 12-volt power outlet, a USB port, and a 7-inch touch screen. An 8-inch touch screen comes in the LE, which also has a USB port in the back. The XLE and XSE offer a package with additional tech features, including a JBL stereo system and a wireless charging pad.
Safety Features
Every 2022 Corolla comes standard with advanced safety systems such as forward collision warning, automatic braking, pedestrian detection, lane-centering assist, automatic high beam headlights, and lane-departure warning. Every trim also has a rearview camera and full-speed adaptive cruise control. A blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert is optional for some trims as part of the Premium Package.
