Toyota skipped the 2021 model year on the GR86 and will launch the 2022 model as a completely redesigned vehicle. This small sports coupe is not only fun to drive but also budget-friendly. If you're in the market for something with a bit of pizzazz, the GR86 needs to be at the top of your list. Here are the top features of the 2022 Toyota GR86.
Trim Levels
The 2022 Toyota GR86 is only available in two trim levels: base and Premium. The base model has LED headlights, daytime running lights, and taillights. You also get 17-inch alloy wheels, a chrome-tipped dual exhaust, and GR badging. The functional external vents improve the steering stability, while the front rocker and fender molding enhance the overall aerodynamics. Step up to the Premium for adaptive front lights, a distinctive duckbill rear spoiler, and 18-inch alloy wheels. You're sure to turn the heads of drivers as you pass by on the highway.
Engine (Power)
The biggest upgrade drivers will notice is with the engine. The 2022 GR86 has a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated opposed four-cylinder engine paired with either a six-speed manual or available six-speed automatic transmission. This combination delivers 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. You'll notice more get-up-and-go on this model year, with a zero to 60 mph rating of about six seconds. The new engine is both more powerful and more vocal, delivering an undeniable purr when pushed.
Performance
As you can imagine, a sport coupe will have plenty of performance-enhancing features to improve the handling and overall driving experience. The independent front and rear suspension offer razor-sharp handling on the track and as a daily commuter. You also get an all-new electronic power steering that's one of the sharpest systems out there. The GR86 comes with a Track drive mode that dampens the stability control intervention to let you test the limits of this sport car without sliding off the track.
Interior
Slide into the 2022 Toyota GR86, and you'll notice that the focus of this sport coupe is on the driver. You get a 7-inch multifunction display in front of the driver that lights up with a red ring around the speedometer when in Sport mode. Track mode changes the display to showcase the higher rpm range. Both the manual and automatic transmissions come with a shift lever.
Additional features include sport bucket seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button ignition, and an 8-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The base will offer a six-speaker audio system, while the Premium comes with eight. The Premium also ups the leather and suede-like surfaces and has heated front seats.
Safety Features
Another improvement you'll find on the 2022 GR86 is that Toyota added to the driver-assistance features. You get a rearview camera to help you see what's behind the vehicle. Each trim comes with an advanced air bag system with seven air bags to help protect you and your passengers in the event of a collision. On the available automatic transmission, you get a host of safety and driver-assistance features, including automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, high beam assist, sway warning, pre-collision throttle management, and adaptive cruise control.
