2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime
The Prime model makes the popular RAV4 SUV even more powerful and fuel-efficient. This plug-in hybrid provides drivers with the flexibility to use just electric power when they want to but has a gas engine that will kick in when needed. For the 2022 model year, the RAV4 Prime carries over without any significant changes other than an updated headlight design to match the rest of the RAV4 lineup.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The RAV4 Prime comes in two trim levels. The base is the SE, which has 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, roof rails, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, and a height-adjustable power liftgate. It also comes standard with heated and power-adjustable side exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals.
Stepping up to the XSE adds 19-inch alloy wheels, red shock absorbers, and a power moonroof. The RAV4 Prime's exterior design is very similar to the regular RAV4, but with just a few additions. It adds some aerodynamic underbody panels to make it more fuel-efficient, and it has some unique wheel covers. The XSE also has a two-tone exterior paint scheme to give it a sporty look and make it stand out.
Engine (Power)
Power for the RAV4 Prime comes from a plug-in hybrid setup. It has a 2.5-liter gas four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that combine to generate 302 horsepower. An 18-kWh lithium-ion battery powers the motors, and the system uses an automatic transmission to send power to all four wheels.
Performance
The RAV4 Prime is the quickest RAV4 in the lineup. In addition to the extra horsepower, it also accelerates faster than any other RAV4, getting to 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds. The ride stays smooth over most roads, and the suspension keeps the crossover firmly connected to the road when taking tight corners.
Interior
Inside, there's room for up to five passengers. The cabin has a spacious feel and comes with high-quality materials. The SE has cloth upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The optional Weather & Moonroof package adds heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel. Step up to the XSE for simulated leather upholstery and red accents in the cabin.
The technology in the RAV4 Prime starts with an 8-inch touch screen, two 12-volt power outlets, a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and five USB ports. It also comes standard with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. You'll get a 9-inch touch screen in the XSE and the option for an 11-speaker JBL stereo and integrated navigation.
Safety Features
Every RAV4 Prime comes standard with a long list of safety features as part of the Safety Sense 2.0 group. This bundle includes automatic emergency braking, lane-departure alert with a steering assist feature, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, full-speed automatic cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The XSE comes with all these safety systems and adds front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking assistance and a 10-inch color head-up display.
