Roughly the same size as the popular Toyota RAV4, the high-tech 2024 Toyota bZ4X is a comfy electric crossover SUV that looks good and is easy to drive. The bZ4X comes in XLE and Limited trim levels and in FWD or AWD versions. There is much to admire in the performance of these stylish SUVs.
Body Rigidity
The bZ4X has a reinforced unitized steel body with an alloy undercover. Its high rigidity and low center of gravity help deliver a stable, responsive performance as well as enhance safety in the event of an impact.
Single and Twin Motors
Most bZ4X models are front-wheel drive with a single 201 hp motor, encompassing a potent 196 lb-ft of torque. The all-wheel drive bZ4X has front and rear electric motors for a combined 214 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque.
Suspension, Braking, and Steering
One of the strengths of the bZ4X is its smooth ride. This is helped by a MacPherson strut design at the front, and, for extra shock absorption on bumpy roads, a multi-link rear suspension with stabilizer bar. The net result is stability, control, and comfort. Regenerative Braking Boost Mode lets you either accelerate or decelerate with one pedal.
You don’t feel much road buzz through the compact bZ4X steering wheel. It’s precise and enables good handling. The bZ4X has Electric Power Steering and comes with an Electronically Controlled Braking system.
Battery Charging and Range
The 71.4 kWh battery of the bZ4X can be 80% charged in half an hour at a 150 kW charging station. It promises a range of up to 252 miles per full charge on the XLE FWD or 236 miles for the Limited FWD. These figures are slightly reduced on AWD models.
You also get an estimated up to 119 MPGe from the XLE FWD, while the Limited FWD yields up to an estimated 112 MPGe. Use MPGe to compare energy consumption between different electric vehicles.
X-MODE
X-MODE is a top feature of Toyota bZ4X AWD models. It helps enhance traction and stability on uneven surfaces and includes snow/dirt and snow/mud modes. This technology also gets paired with Grip Control mode.
